Seeking Peace and Justice

Reflections for contemplative living

Our hearts are heavy with the weight of the world right now.  I’m realizing what Pope St. John XXIII meant “When the family suffers, the rest of society crumbles.” We are definitely living in times where the walls of society feel like they are tumbling down.

This can be an overwhelming state, but I encourage you to take heart and double down on what you can do.  If we desire peace and justice in the world, we need to first look at ourselves and our own families and work for peace and unity in our own homes.

This view was held by many saints, including Pope St. John Paul II, who did all he could to stress the vital need to preserve the family. This is the life force that welcomes God into the world and we can begin by praying for and learning to love our family.

Let’s persevere in prayer asking God to prevent the damage to the sacred institution of the family.  Let us seek God’s love to prevail in our hearts, building up the common good of those in our family and the broader society.  We ask our Lord to help us not ignore or reject the values for which He laid down His life, to give us life.  Let us open our hearts and minds to hear His voice in love to influence the circle of lives around us.  Breathing life into the darkness of the world. When we seek God’s peace, we allow God’s justice to reign.
