Kevin Vost, PSY.D in The Gifts of the Holy Spirit says “Virtues allow us to become excellent – more fully and perfectly human – by disposing us to perform good acts, to perfect ourselves, and to give the best of ourselves. When we possess the virtues, it becomes easier and more natural and enjoyable for us to do the right things. We’re able to maximize our human powers. Virtues make us and our actions good.”
The only way we can live a life of virtue is with humility and empty hands. Where we ask for the gifts of virtue. So much of my life has been about me doing or trying to force solutions. With a conversion of heart, I know it’s not about what I do but about what the Spirit does through me. If my life doesn’t flow from my relationship with God, everything becomes unbalanced and centered around my wants and desires. I need to ask God daily to reveal to me the ways I resist sharing in His life, the ways I resist surrender.
Thank you, Lord, for wanting to fill my empty hands with Your own virtues.
