As an extrovert who is high energy and who likes to get things accomplished, I have to be mindful when I need to slow down, recharge, and be still to counter the busyness I naturally gravitate towards. I recently heard a talk on the “busyness epidemic” of our world today and its impact on us finding meaning and purpose. It’s in the silence where we connect with our true self, where we can be still and know ourselves and who we are.
But this action takes courage to step away from my “go-to” behaviors. Many times, it’s getting away from the big city and spending time at our Peace of Heaven in the forest on Lake Livingston. If I spend a couple of days immersed in nature, or even a couple of hours, I find she reveals how out of balance my life has become. And she will ask me the question: “Do you have the courage to step out of the madness?”
With the grace of God as the wind beneath me, I can step out of the vortex of the life and chaos that swirls around me and be firmly planted in peace, hope, and joy and all of God’s promises. I’m holding sacred space where newness and life are renewed in me. A life of simplicity, if I am only still.
Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
Psalm 46:10
Thank you, Lord, for nudging me to step out of the madness to be still and become who You want me to be.
