Finding the Good

Reflections for contemplative living

We are to nurture what is good in our life. By the mercy of God, we are to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, not conforming to this age but to be transformed by the renewal of our minds, able to discern the will of God and determine what is good, pleasing, and perfect.

Earlier today I had a choice to hunker down and get some writing done or respond to my husband’s sweet text, “Want to go for a walk?” My first inclination is usually to power through what I’m doing to get more “accomplished.” However, today I said, “Sure, give me a minute and I’ll go.”

This small decision that God led me to allowed me to nurture the good in my life.  Connection with my husband, connection to my body, and connection to the divine by feeling the cool breeze as we walked.  These 3,000 steps transformed my outlook for the goodness in my day.

Lord, thank you for your watchful eye and nurturing in us what is good.
