Who Is God?

Reflections for contemplative living

Who, O God, is like you? (Psalm 71:19) When we say God, we don’t really mean God, we mean our idea of God.

God is beyond our comprehension until we enter into the mystery. The traditions of today have not cultivated this sense of awe and wonder, seeking the mystery of the divine.

We must expand our idea of God because this challenge and this seeking shifts our whole perception of reality. In doing so, we learn the reality that we see doesn’t really exist. The way we see life is composed of our own generic, educational, cultural, religious, and “whatever else” conditioning. We begin to learn that we often see what we want to see and nothing else. And we discover how we make God fit into the little universe that we built for ourselves growing up. This universe is also known as the false self and the one that basically has “I” at the center of it.

Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you program the limits of the Almighty?

Job 11:7

Thank you, Lord, for helping me expand my idea of who You are and living in this mystery.
