We have been taught by God to love one another.
1 Thessalonians 4:9-11
These words struck me this morning during my time reflecting on scripture. It doesn’t say we will be taught to love or that we haven’t been taught to love but that we have been taught to love.
We were created to love God and to love one another, and to make Him loved. It is not enough for me to love God if my neighbor does not love Him. This is the communal aspect of our faith as God is drawing all of creation towards Him. We help in this journey by discovering and nurturing the talents we’ve been given. These talents all lead us to greater love.
How many times have I let fear stop me from growing my talents? Or how many times have I let fear stop me from exploring God’s creation? Or falling in love? Or receiving forgiveness? Or experiencing joy? When we allow our gifts to grow, we become who God has invited us to become, becoming a gift for others in the world.
Lord, help me see all creation as a gift and empower me to do Your work in the world through the Holy Spirit alive in me, and each one of us.
