A New Heart

Reflections for contemplative living

So much of what we do and feel comes from an unconscious level of being. But the soul knows its true identity and longings, just waiting for us to put down our guard where we invite the Spirit to take control.

Recently during the Eucharist at Mass, I had overwhelming gratitude for God’s goodness that the tears just wouldn’t stop streaming down my face. It felt like another layer of self-sufficiency was peeled from my heart, letting trust reside on a deeper level. This was a tangible reminder of my new heart and the spirit that lives within me.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)

Thank you, Lord, for softening my heart in gratitude for Your goodness.
