Love. Life. Liberty.

Reflections for contemplative living

As Americans, we celebrate our freedom today.  Freedom gives us a sense of hope and helps us feel optimistic about our lives. But with freedom comes responsibility.

Christian optimism on the other hand is not a sugar coated optimism. Nor is it a human confidence that everything will turn out all right. Instead, it is an optimism that sinks its roots into an awareness of our freedom, and the sure knowledge of the power of grace. It is an optimism that leads us to make demands on ourselves and to struggle to respond to God’s call.

When we follow God, love itself, we live life.  When we live life, we live with liberty and in freedom. There is no freedom without divine love itself.

What are the areas in you that need to be free?

Thank you, Lord, for Your love that gives us life and freedom.
