Candle in the Wind

Reflections for contemplative living

At the end of the baby boomer generation, I loved listening to Elton John and I especially liked his song “Candle in the Wind.”  It was such a beautiful tribute to Marilyn Monroe whose life was cut too short because of her pain and suffering.  The darkness overshadowed the light within.

A tiny spark of God’s love burns within all of us despite the darkness we might feel at times.  We need to nurture the spark through silence, prayer and service to others.  When we stay steadfast in these good works, we keep the spark from being exposed to the wind and storms where it may get blown out.

Will you stay quiet with God today?

Thank you, Lord, for planting the flame of Your love in each of our hearts.
