A Life Worth Living

Reflections for contemplative living

It takes endurance to live a life worth living. As a person who has found their value in achievement, running the race of life has been effortless most of the time. However, to live life well, in connection with God, myself and others, I’m learning the endurance it takes to slow down and enjoy the journey.

It is said that by endurance, we will secure possession of your soul (Luke 21:18). The possession of a soul means the undisturbed mastery of oneself, which is the secret of inner peace allowing us freedom from a thousand agitations which make us fearful, unhappy, and disappointed. It is only when my soul is possessed can anything else be enjoyed.

The important thing is not to think much but to love much; and so do that which best stirs you to love.

St. Teresa of Avila

Lord, You had patience in adversity, trial, and persecution and were in full possession of Your soul only to give it back to Your Heavenly Father, help me do the same.
