Where is peace to be found in the world? In the hearts of the wise and humble. Those who are humble enough to be at peace during anguish, to accept conflict and insecurity and overcome it with love, because they realize who they are, and therefore possess the freedom that is their true heritage. These are the children of God. We all know them. You do not need to go to the monastery to find them. They are everywhere.
The peace which the Divine brings is not a formula for individual escape, nor for egotistical self-fulfillment. There can be no peace in the heart of humanity who seek peace for themselves alone. To find true peace, peace in Christ, we must desire others to have peace as well as ourselves, and we must be willing to sacrifice something of our own peace and happiness in order that others may have peace and be happy.
What is my part in all this? I surrender to a God that is bigger than I can comprehend and embrace a non-violent lifestyle. As I commit to this with persistence, my heart responds to others in peace, in solidarity with compassion and love. Giving the other their due and bringing justice into the world.
Peace does not mean the suppression of all differences, but their coexistence and fruitful collaboration.
Thank you Lord for drawing me to Your love, peace, and compassion
