To have a posture of Faith, we must always be seeking. We must constantly turn our minds and hearts towards God in prayer and gratitude. We must be concerned with what is in our heart. I must be concerned with form and substance. Until my second half of life, it seems I was concerned more with form, how I dressed and looked, the house or neighborhood I lived in. But this lack of substance left me empty and searching for more. God was drawing me towards substance and towards goodness.
An attitude of discernment opens the space for me to be faithful and live as God intends me to. I seek to be free from selfishness and greed, lack of charity and kindness, free from arrogance, pride and feelings of self-righteousness. I give praise and glory where it is due and speak justly. Meditating on Psalter 71 renews me and strengthens me to choose to live with both substance and form.
In you, oh Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your uprightness, rescue me, free me; incline your ear to me and save me.
Be my rock, my constant refuge, a mighty strong hold to save me, for you are my rock, my strong hold. My God, free me from the hand of the wicked,
It is you, oh Lord, who are my hope, my trust, oh Lord, from my youth. On you I have leaned from my birth; from my mothers womb, you have drawn forth. At all times I give you praise.
My mouth will tell of your justice, and all the day long of your salvation, though I could never tell at all. Oh God you have taught me for my youth, and I proclaim your wonders still.
Holy spirit, you renew the face of the earth and renew the hearts of your faithful. Purify us in your refining fire, so that we may be faithful servants and all that we think, say, and do. Amen.
