Finding God's Goodness

Week Thirty-Two. Moderation. Well-being.

Month Eight – Valuing My Body. Temperance with hope leads to self-control.

Are you stretched thin by the anxieties of everyday life? Are you impacted by fatigue, sadness, or apathy? Does it feel like your relationships are stagnating, despite your best efforts? Are wounds from past relationships affecting your ability to live joyfully?

The world is heavy today with many of us bearing the crosses of anxiety, depression, and more. How do we cope? The truth is that God doesn’t want us to live this way. We are called to live a life of joy and peace.  Pursuing this life is well-being.

God wills that everyone be saved, not just from sin and evil but also from depression, anxiety, past trauma…and everything else that brings us pain, suffering, and separation from the love and peace God so desperately wants to give us. God is loving and compassionate, and He wants us to be healed and live whole. So much of our dysfunctional and distorted thinking can drive our actions undermining any self control.  It is during these times we need to yield to the Spirit of God rather than rely on our own flawed strength to combat our fears. Extreme and uncontrollable thoughts which are in direct opposition to God’s word can impair our judgment. In the most severe cases, these thoughts are a key difference between mental illness and a spiritual struggle.

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm 34:14

Thank you Lord for helping me pursue the good life in You today.
