Recently I was dazzled by the images from the National Science Foundation that captured millions of distant stars and galaxies and revealed thousands of previously unseen asteroids. I love when science catches up with the mystery of God’s beauty and gives us a taste of the omnipotence and grandeur. We are seeing the mystery revealed in the Milky Way.
When contemplating my vision of God in preparation for a session with my new Spiritual Director, I keep landing on the fact that God is mystery to me. Not in a scary or uncomfortable way but in a known and unknown way. It’s a very comforting feeling to be held with such love, tenderness, mercy and compassion and exciting to be drawn into the streams of unknowing where faith, trust and hope flow all around me. It’s a deep sense of knowing that God is holding everything together, despite my understanding allowing me to fall deeper in love and surrender, living the mystery. It’s like the stars and galaxies being held in orbit.
Living the mystery gets beyond our singular faith traditions and opens our eyes and hearts to all of creation, seeing things through Gods heart and eyes and not with our limited ones. It unites us together with all of creation rather than being at odds with it, allowing God’s will to flow through us another day.
Spirit of Life, show us your will and give us the strength and courage to respond. Help us be captivated by your mystery drawing us deeper into your love. Amen
