We usually must go through great conflict before we can learn to fully overcome ourselves and draw our whole affection towards God. When we rely upon ourselves, we are easily drawn to chase human comforts. But a true lover of Christ, and a diligent pursuer of virtue, does not hunt after comforts but is willing to bear trials and hard labors for Christ.
Our minds need to be filled with good thoughts. If unoccupied, the enemy will fill them with bad thoughts. We are promised a change of mindset, if only we focus on God’s goodness which draws us to the greater good.
