The Visitation, which we celebrate today, is a joyful mystery where Mary, immediately after the miracle of the Incarnation, visits her cousin Elizabeth. I love this day because it reminds me of my holy friendships and how we serve each other, bearing the fruit of loving our neighbor.
Friendship is a sacred bond that brings people together. In some religions, it is considered holy. The trust, support, and love shared between friends can be life-changing and have a positive impact on one’s mental health. It’s important to cherish and cultivate these bonds to create long-lasting, meaningful relationships with the people we care about.
God turned Mary’s world upside down. What did Mary do? She rushed off with speed and purpose to her cousin, Elizabeth. Mary was excited because she had found her mission and her role in God’s divine plan. Today we are much too concerned about worldly things and being self-made. This is the ego drama, or the story I am writing, producing, directing, and starring in. Freedom of choice reigns supreme and I get to choose who I want to be.
If we hear God’s whisper to us, too often our first reaction is one of selfishness: “I don’t feel like it,” “I’ll do it later,” “Can’t someone else take care of it?” The theo drama is the great story being told by God. It is the divine plan. Mary shows us how thrilling it can be to discover our role in the divine plan.
Mary had an instinct to serve and was entrenched in humility.
Thank you, Lord, for revealing my part in Your divine plan step by step, day by day when I live by faith.
