For many years I kept my sensuality at bay, not honoring or allowing myself to delight in its gifts. But not able to run from this desire anymore and I’m learning it’s telling me something. It’s the whisper of God telling me it’s ok to enjoy life and take a break from my drivenness. These small acts of self-care help me learn to live in wholeness:
Trying a new recipe and tasting new flavors.
The smell of a new candle.
Taking a few moments to let my body melt into the floor and relax.
Keeping my hands busy with a needlepoint project.
Watching the hummingbirds flit around in my backyard.
Listening to music that inspires me to sing and move my body.
When I lean into my sensuality in meaningful ways, I praise God’s creation of me. I’m telling myself I’m important and I lift my soul to the Lord and sing a new song. I’m understanding this is how the faithful rejoice in the life we’ve been given.
Our praise is a beautiful smell to God. The fruit of our lips and our heartfelt thanksgiving rise up as a beautiful aroma, as incense, and everyone around us can sense it too.
Let’s live our God-given sensuality today!
