Week Thirty-Six. Tempted to Doubt. Facing Truth.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

Whether it is in a daily spiritual examination or in the rooms of recovery with a Fourth Step, we make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. For some of us, no challenge seems more formidable; there’s nothing more difficult than facing ourselves as we really are. It’s hard to face the truth of how far we are from our true nature and God’s purity of heart.

Week Thirty-Six. Tempted to Doubt. Chastity.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

This month we will contemplate the Spirit of Chastity. This fruit of the spirit allows us to flourish because we develop a habit of reverence for ourselves and others. Chastity enables us to moderate our sensuality, using our sexual powers to pursue happiness.  We become spiritual, cleansed and pure in heart, living as God intended for us.

Finding God's Goodness

Week Thirty-Five. Self-Control. Leads to Love.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

The human soul, by its very nature, is endowed with the faculty of knowing God and the capacity for loving Him. The intelligence of the soul, transporting itself above all that is created and finite, has power to raise itself even to the contemplation of that Being who alone is uncreated and infinite, who is the source of all good and all perfection; it is able to form an idea of Him that is clear and accurate and indelible.

Week Thirty-Five. Self-Control. Our Dreams.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

Week Thirty-Five. Self-Control. The Crosses We Bear.

Valuing My Body. Temperance with love leads to chastity.

What crosses do you bear in your daily life? For me it is watching the suffering of a friend, thoughts that what I do is never enough, and the constant striving to always do better. Another cross is accepting, with humility, what it takes to live a life with the perils of an aging body. For another, it is carrying the grief of loss after loss and having the strength to seek joy.
